History

The String & Splinter Club was originally founded as a private Men's Club in 1956 by members of High Point’s furniture and hosiery industries. The first home of the String & Splinter Club was in the basement of the Sheraton Hotel where it remained from 1957-1964. In 1964 our club relocated to the penthouse suite of the then new Holiday Inn which was constructed as an adjunct to the Furniture Plaza showroom in downtown High Point. By the late 1970's, the club's directors began to investigate potential relocation sites for the String & Splinter Club. What was once the finest of inns was becoming just another aging motel. Their goal of securing a suitable location for our club's business and professional community was realized in 1983 when we relocated once more to the heart of Market Square.

As we settled into our new location, the club's directors seized the opportunity to remain competitive and prosperous in our ever-changing world. In 1983 the String & Splinter opened its doors to women and made the transition from a private Men's Club to our current status of a private City Club. The String & Splinter has been blessed through the years with strong directors consisting of knowledgeable, successful and experienced business leaders of our city. They have known and recognized when change was necessary. They have governed our club with forward and progressive leadership which included the 1983 relocation, the 1983 transition from a Men's Club to City Club and the then modern movement of hiring a female General Manager for this once "Men's Only" establishment.

From the basement of the Sheraton Hotel where it all began, to its current two-story location in Market Square, the String & Splinter Club has weathered the changes of the world with elegance and style. Our Mission is our constant, we will continue our dedication in providing our members with fine dining, extraordinary service and incomparable Southern hospitality in warm and gracious surroundings. Our members’ satisfaction will always be our first priority. We are where leaders meet.
